Abstract
As one of the investigation of medicinal resources in Acanthopanax species, studies were carried out on pharmacologically active constituents of Acanthopanax trifoliatus leaves (Araliaceae), which is distributed and used as a plant origin of Acanthopanacis Cortex of chinese medicine in Taiwan. From the ether extracts of leaves, the four chemical substances which are substance I, II, III and IV are isolated by column chromatographic techniques. Substance I and ¥± of them were identified as taraxasteryl acetate and phytosterol mixtures of ¥â-sitosterol with stigmasterol through physico-chemical properties and instrumental analysis. Substance IV was suggested as a new lupane triterpenoid base on chemical and spectral discussions. From further studies of substance IV through phyto-chemical approaches. It was given C_(30)H_(48)O©þ, m.p. 240¡241¢ª, [¥á]£Þ20_D-1.25 (pyridine), and named Acanthodiol (20(29)-lupene-3-¥â-11--diol-28-oic acid), a new constituent in Acanthopanax species and also detected natural products field at first time.
